2020’s
The current work considers the deepening social divisions across the United States. New work reflects the rising energy of racial and social justice movements. At the same time, this work depicts entrenched forms of thinking called forth by dangerous forces of fear and greed.
2010’s
Work from this decade considers Latina social and spiritual imagery. The material relates literary, visual and philosophical treatises by Anzaldua, Sandoval and Broyles-Gonzale to symbols found in landscapes of the Southwest.
2000’s
Art from this decade reflect the artist’s experiences within the dramatically new landscapes of the Midwest. Far and distant from her native desert ranges, this new topography is one of rivers, streams and abundant watersheds.
1990’s
Art from this period considers new directions in art activism. Visual references to literary works predominate. The depth of collage experimentation increases and canvases become filled with images of a scarred and broken landscape. Environmental activism attains a level of commitment matched by references to racial and social justice concerns.
Contemporary art featuring works on paper, acrylic paintings and encaustic images on wood. In 2021 Dayton Hickory Gallery presents recent work from Judith Huacuja, including works form the series “Ship of Fools”, “Consternations, and “Clarion Call Dayton.”
